![]() Mathews-Gotthelf Second Empire Mansion the Boettcher Foundation and the Arthur and Helen Johnson Foundation. The house is one of the largest Victorian era houses in Denver. It has brick masonry bearing walls and a sandstone foundation. The house has twelve foot ceilings and several original fireplaces, as well as original molding, decorative transoms and fretwork. The house has a mansard roof decorated in slate. James F. Mathews, an ore and bullion broker, was the first owner. Isaac Gotthelf purchased the house in 1890. Gotthelf made his fortune through cattle and banking interests Saguache in the upper San Luis Valley. He was twice elected to the Colorado House of Representatives. |
